The
Donnemara is a signature Donegal Carpets design which has been produced
in many colourways over the years. Originals have commanded high prices
at auction over the past decade as interest for antique Donegal Carpets
continues to grow. Like all of C.F.A. Voysey's designs, nature is a
point of inspiration, in this instance roses and tulips; but botanical
accuracy is not as important as the creation of pattern, rhythm and
overall composition. The Donnemara, along with the Wykehamist and
Magnolia, shows Voysey's interest in contrasting the scale of the border
elements with those of the field, creating a wonderful sense of dynamism
in the overall design. |
