open and linear than other designs in the GuildCraft Collection,
Magnolia has a wonderful feeling of lightness and delicacy. It is
perhaps one of the most stylized of Voysey's carpet designs, and yet the
original design source, the leaves and blossoms of the magnolia tree,
are clearly recognizable. Again, Voysey creates a skillful interplay of
scale between the border and the field. Our artists' use of colour
placement to further define the design was inspired by the repeating
patterns in antique Eastern carpets. |
